Answer:

water or conduct experiment requiring the water to be in liquid state. A coffee

addicted physicist stationed at a research base requires about 0.8 kg of ice for

his coffee on the hour.

a. How much heat is required to convert 0.8 kg of ice at -35 °C into steam

at 100°C?

[5]

b. Plot the temperature - energy graph for the processes in (a). [5]

C. The surface tension of water was determined in a laboratory by using

the drop weight method. 100 drops were released from a burette the

inner diameter of whose opening is 1.8 mm. The mass of the droplets

was 3.78 g.

i. Determine the surface tension of the water and, comparing it

with the tabulated value,

161

ii. Calculate the relative error of the measurements.

Three children are struggling and pulling on a single toy. Two of the children, Abe and Barry, are EACH (individually) pulling w
3241004551 [841]

Solution :

c). $\vec{F}_A = $ force applied by Abe

   $\vec{F}_B = $ force applied by Barry

   $\vec{F}_E = $ force applied by Eric

   $\vec{F}_R = $ Resultant force

$\vec{F}_A $  in the vector form can be written as :

         $\vec{F}_A = 0 \hat{i} + 60 \hat{j}$

$\vec{F}_B $  in the vector form can be written as :

         $\vec{F}_B = 60 \hat{i} + 0 \hat{j}$

The resultant,

$\vec{F}_R= \vec{F}_A+\vec{F}_B $

     $=(0 \hat i + 60 \hat j)+(60 \hat i + 0\hat j)$

    $=60 \hat i + 60 \hat j$

$|\vec{F}_R| = \sqrt{60^2+60^2}$

        = 84.853 N

d). As the three forces are in equilibrium, therefore,

$|\vec F_E| = |\vec F_R|$

$|\vec F_E| =84.853 \ N$

e). The direction of the force exerted by Eric is exactly opposite to the direction of the resultant force.

The direction of the resultant force is :

$\theta = \tan ^{-1}\left(\frac{F_y}{F_x}\right)$

   $ = \tan ^{-1}\left(\frac{60}{60}\right)$

  = 45°  north east

The direction of the force E is  45° west or  45° south west.

Earth’s crust continuously melts and solidifies in the upper mantle. Why does oceanic crust solidify faster than continental cru
Softa [21]

The oceanic crust solidifies faster than the continental crust. Because when magma comes into contact with ocean water it cools faster than when it reaches continental rock. Option C is correct.

<h3>What is the crust?</h3>

The outermost layer of a terrestrial planet is referred to as its "crust."

In the upper mantle, the Earth's crust is constantly melting and solidifying. Compared to magma beneath the continental crust, the oceanic crust has a lower temperature.

Magma cools more quickly when it comes into touch with ocean water than when it hits continental rock. causes the continental crust to solidify more slowly than the oceanic crust.

Hence option C is correct.

How can you pull a rope with equal but opposite forces
Ivahew [28]
You want to do it all by yourself ?  Nothing to it !

Take a piece of rope that's maybe 12 to 18 inches long.  Take one end
of the rope in each hand, raise your hands up in front of you, and make
like you're trying to stretch the rope.  You'll automatically make the forces
of your hands equal and opposite, so that the rope just stays there in front
of you and doesn't move.
