A boat takes 4 hours to go 12 miles upstream. It can go 32 miles downstream in the same time. Find the rate of the current and t

he rate of the boat in still water. (Hint: Because the current pushes the boat when it is going downstream, the rate of the boat downstream is the sum of the rate of the boat and the rate of the current. The current slows down the boat when it is going upstream, so the rate of the boat upstream is the difference of the rate of the boat and the rate of the current.)

The speed upstream is the difference between the boat speed and the current speed. It is (12 mi)/(4 h) = 3 mph.

The speed downstream is the sum of the boat speed and the current speed. It is (32 mph)/(4 h) = 8 mph.

The speed of the boat is the average of these: (3 + 8)/2 = 5.5 mph.

The speed of the current is that less the difference: 5.5 - 3 = 2.5 mph.

_____

Check

Boat + Current = 5.5 + 2.5 = 8 mph

Boat - Current = 5.5 - 2.5 = 3 mph

R+q-r; use q=6,and r=2
Anastasy [175]

Answer:

so you would replace all r with 2 which is 2+q-2

then replace the q with 6 so it would be: r+6-r

combined both of these to get

2+6-2

which would equal to 6

add the 2 and the 6 to get 8

then subtract 2 to get 6

Hello i need help with these questions asap!!
makvit [3.9K]

We use direct proportionality:

360⁰......Pi×R² (full circle)

120⁰.......x

x=120×pi×R²/360=pi×R²/3

x=pi×4²/3=16.76mi²

A=3×pi cm², for an angle of 2×pi/3=120⁰

In a similar way we compute the area of the full circle:

360.........x

120..........3×pi

x=3×pi×360/120=9×pi=3²×pi.

Thus the radius is 3cm.

Combine like terms and classify the polynomial by the number of terms. 9xy – 3y + 6xy – 3y A. trinomial B. monomial C. binomial
Leni [432]
To combine like terms, check if there are any terms just like the first one, and we see 6xy. 9xy + 6xy = 15xy. So that is one term. Now I would see if the second term has any terms like the first one, and we see -3y. So -3y + (-3y), we would get -6y. That means our polynomial is now 15xy - 6y, and because this has two terms, it is a binomial. Hope this helps. Please rate, leave a thanks, and mark a brainliest answer. (Not necessarily mine). Thanks, it really helps!
