The strands of DNA are wrapped around histone proteins. The packaging is advanced further to the secondary and tertiary structure packaging level. In the end, the entire structure is completely packed in the form of a chromosome to fit within the nucleus of a single cell.
The number molecules inside and outside the cell would be constant. This only happens once the cell is dead.
