Explain how a change in a single base pair can result in a change in the shape of a protein.

Biology

Answer/Explanation:

A single base pair change could change a single amino acid. This amino acid could have totally different properties to the initial amino acid. For example, a change from the codon CCC to GCC would change the amino acid from proline to alanine. These two amino acids have entirely different characteristics, and could totally disrupt the structure of a particular domain of a protein. For example, proline is rigid and has a ring structure, and alanine has a non-polar side chain and rarely participates in protein function.

Which organisms are not examples of an adaptive radiation?
gavmur [86]

Answer:

Option B, Mammals and reptiles in the post-dinosaur age.

Explanation:

Adaptive radiation is mechanism through which species evolve very fast from common single ancestors. In simple words two different species are said to have evolved through adaptive radiation when they have descended from a single lineage. This is not the case with mammals and reptiles.

Generally in adaptive radiation, a species evolve when it faces new environmental challenges due to change of habitat or area. For example mammals have evolved from dinosaurs.

Hence, option B is correct

What is the idea of Continental Drift?
Tamiku [17]
Geologist Alfred Wegner noticed similar rocks & fossils remains were found on Continents which seemed to fit together. He called saw that it was the result of Continental drift and Pangea. Some evidence of the Drift was Rock evidence- Mountain ranges, Glacial scares, Location of coal deposits, ETC..

People couldn't image how the Earth could be millions of years ago. But the 1960's evidence would prove Continental Drift is TRUE and .. the story continues (as all good science!)

Continental drift means that continents move away from each other or separated.
