Two passengers leave the airport at Kansas City, Missouri. One flies to Los Angeles, California, in 3.4 hr and the other flies i

n the opposite direction to New York City in 2.4 hr. With prevailing westerly winds, the speed of the plane to New York City is 60 mph faster than the speed of the plane to Los Angeles. If the total distance traveled by both planes is 2464 mi, determine the average speed of each plane.

Answer:  x = 400 MPH    x+60 = 460 MPH

Step-by-step explanation:

(Distance = (Rate)(Time)

Let x = speed of the LA bound plane

Then, x+60 = speed of NYC bound plane

Sum of distances = 2464

3.4x + 2.4(x+60) = 2464

         5.8x + 144 = 2464

                  5.8x = 2320

                      x = 400 MPH    x+60 = 460 MPH

To paint a sunset, you make a shade of orange paint using 55 drops of red paint for every 88 drops of yellow paint. If you use 1
alexandr402 [8]
Since the ratio of red drops to yellow drops is 55:88 and you have 1515 red drops, the yellow drops needed is given as
If 55=1515
   88=?
88/55*1515=2424
therefore 2424 drops of yellow will be needed to make a shade of orange

For which of the following is x=-5 a solution? Select all that apply. A) x+10=-5 B) -x^2+50=25 C) l2xl =10 D) x<0 E) 2x<10
guapka [62]
Hello there!

Since we're looking for an equation to have a solution of x = -5, let's solve them from answer choice "A.)" to answer choice "D.)"

x + 10 = -5
x = -15

A.) is not correct.

Let's try B.)

-x^2 + 50 = 25
x^2 = -25
x = -5

Answer choice B.) is correct.
Let's continue looking for answer choices, just in case.

Let's look at answer choice C.)
2x = 10
x = 5
This answer is not correct.

Let's look at answer choice D.)
x < 0
This means x is less than 0, or a negative number.
This answer is not specifically correct.

Let's look at answer choice E.)
2x < 10
x < 5
This is less than 5, but does not specifically answer our chances.

Your answer is B.)

I  hope this helps!
