add 5x to both sides

3y+5x-5x=9+5x

3y+0=5x+9

3y=5x+9

divide both sides by 3

$\frac{3y}{3}=\frac{5x+9}{3}$

$(y)(\frac{3}{3})=\frac{5x+9}{3}$

$(y)(1)=\frac{5x+9}{3}$

$y=\frac{5x+9}{3}$
