Laila tells Julius to pick a number between one and ten. “Add three to your number and multiply the sum by five,” she tells him.

Next she says, “Now take that number and subtract seven from it and tell me the new number.” “Twenty-three,” Julius exclaims. What was Julius’ original number? In the next round Leila is supposed to pick a number between 1 and 10 and follow the same instructions. She gives her final result as 108. Julius immediately replies: “Hey, you cheated!” What might he mean?

Julius’ original number was 3 & Laila cheated as accordingly number was 20 ! but she said 108 .

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Julius pick number x , So we have following instructions as :

Add three to your number and multiply the sum by five

⇒ 5(x+3)

"Now take that number and subtract seven from it and tell me the new number.” “Twenty-three,”

⇒ 5(x+3)-7 = 23

⇒ (x+3)=6

⇒ x=3

So , Julius’ original number was 3 .

In the next round Leila is supposed to pick a number between 1 and 10 and follow the same instructions. She gives her final result as 108. i.e.

⇒ 5(x+3)-7 = 108

⇒ x+3 = 23

⇒ x=20

Therefore , Julius’ original number was 3 & Laila cheated as accordingly number was 20 ! but she said 108 .

What are the coordinates of the midpoint of AB IF A (6,4) and B (-8,8)
marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

-I haven't done this, but I have copied and pasted from another question and answer from the user syed514:

Graphing is one way to do the problem.But sometimes, graphing it is hard to do.So here’s an algebraic method.

If M(m1, m2) is the midpoint of two points A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2),then m1 = (x1 + x2)/2 and m2 = (y1 + y2)/2.In other words, the x-coordinate of the midpointis the average of the x-coordinates of the two points,and the y-coordinate of the midpointis the average of the y-coordinates of the two points.

Let B have coordinates (x2, y2) in our problem.Then we have that 6 = (2 + x2)/2 and 8 = (3 + y2)/2.

Solving for the coordinates gives x2 = 10, y2 = 13

What is 5/6 of 15 in simplest form.
aksik [14]

12 1/2 because you do 5/6 x 15/1 which 6/3 equals 2 and 15/3 equals 5 so you do 5/2 x 5/1

Write a rule for the linear function shown in the graph.
Bezzdna [24]

Answer:

Solve for the first variable in one of the equations, then substitute the result into the other equation.

Point Form:

( 1 , − 2 )

Equation Form:

x = 1 , y = − 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Graph.

y = 3 x − 1

y = x + 1

y = − x − 1

y = x + 1
