One of the symptoms of Schizophrenia, is the false and unreal belief useful to explain what the patient has been undergoing.
So the delusion of persecution makes perfect sense as a way of explaining why Chuck has leave home by the back door and trace alternative routes, every now and then.
Chuck has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He believes many people are following him. He leaves the house only from the back door. He will take unusual routes to work and home, in an attempt to lose the people who are trying to follow him. He is experiencing a delusion.
