Answer:

use the straight line test

Step-by-step explanation:

use your pencil or draw a line horizontally (like this -> I )anywhere on the graph. If it's a function, it will only touch the line at one point no matter where you put the line.

A WAY easier (and faster), way to know if it is a function is to see if there are two of the same x-intercept (which make a vertical line). If there is, then it is NOT a function.

Suppose the population of a town was 40,000 on January 1, 2010 and was 50,000 on January 1, 2015. Let P(t) be the population of
Lorico [155]

Answer:

Given,

The initial population ( on 2010 ) = 40,000,

Let r be the rate of increasing population per year,

Thus, the function that shows the population after t years,

P(x)=40000(1+r)^t

And, the population after 5 years ( on 2015 ) is,

P(5)=40000(1+r)^{5}

According to the question,

P(5) = 50,000,

\implies 40000(1+r)^5=50000

(1+r)^5=\frac{50000}{40000}=1.25

r + 1= 1.04563955259

\implies r = 0.04653955259\approx 0.04654

So, the population is increasing the with rate of 0.04654,

And, the population after t years would be,

P(t)=40000(1+0.04654)^t

\implies 40000(1.04654)^t

Since, the exponential function is,

f(x) = ab^x

Hence, by comparing,

a = 40000,

b = 1.04654

Three students were given the expression shown to simplify. Use the drop-down menus to complete the statements about whether eac
Mumz [18]

Question is incomplete, here is the complete question below:

Three students were given the expression shown and were asked to take a common factor out of two of the terms.

Use the drop-down menus to complete the statements about whether each student's answer is an equivalent expression. Then choose an expression that is equivalent.

7-8x+22

Calvin: 7−2(4x+11)

Calvin's expression is (correct/incorrect) because .............

Greg: 7+14x

Greg's expression is (correct/incorrect) because ............

Ruben: 7+2(4x+11)

Ruben's expression is (correct/incorrect) because .

Equivalent Expression

The correct simplification of this expression is ...............

Answer:

The correct simplification of this expression is 7-2(4x-11)

Step-by-step explanation:

Calvin: 7−2(4x+11)

Calvin's expression is incorrect because if -2 is taken as common term then sign (+) should also be changed to (-)

i.e. 7−2(4x+11)  produces 7-8x-22 which is not equivalent to 7-8x+22

Greg: 7+14x

Greg's expression is incorrect because  7+14x  is not equivalent to 7-8x+22

Ruben: 7+2(4x+11)

Ruben's expression is incorrect because  7+2(4x+11) =7+8x+22 which is not equivalent to 7-8x+22

Equivalent Expression  is 7-2(4x-11)

The correct simplification of this expression is 7-2(4x-11)

Which equation of the line written in standard form has has a slope of 6 and contains the points (-1,-3)
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

keeping in mind that standard form for a linear equation means

• all coefficients must be integers, no fractions

• only the constant on the right-hand-side

• all variables on the left-hand-side, sorted

• "x" must not have a negative coefficient

\bf (\stackrel{x_1}{-1}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{-3})~\hspace{10em} slope = m\implies 6 \\\\\\ \begin{array}{|c|ll} \cline{1-1} \textit{point-slope form}\\ \cline{1-1} \\ y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\\\ \cline{1-1} \end{array}\implies y-(-3)=6[x-(-1)]\implies y+3=6(x+1) \\\\\\ y+3=6x+6\implies y=6x+3\implies -6x+y=3\implies 6x-y=-3
