A worker drags a crate across a factory floor by pulling on a rope tied to the crate. The worker exerts a force of magnitude F =

450 N on the rope, which is inclined at an upward angle θ = 38° to the horizontal, and the floor exerts a horizontal force of magnitude f = 125 N that opposes the motion. Calculate the magnitude of the acceleration of the crate if (a) its mass is 310 kg and (b) its weight is 310 N

Answer:

(a) a= 0.74 m/s²

(b) a= 7.26 m/s²

Explanation:

Known data

a)m= 310 kg , : crate mass

F = 450 N which is inclined at an upward angle θ = 38° to the horizontal, in direction of the motion

f= 125 N opposes the motion.

b)W = 310 N  :crate weight

F = 450 N which is inclined at an upward angle θ = 38° to the horizontal, in direction of the motion

f= 125 N opposes the motion

F component in x

Fx= F*Cosθ = 450*Cos38°

Fx= 354.6 N

F component in y

Fy= F*sinθ = 450*sin38°

Fy= 277.05N

Newton's second law:

∑F = m*a (Formula 1)

∑F : algebraic sum of the forces in Newton (N)

m : mass in kilograms (kg)

a : acceleration in meters over second square (m/s²)

Problem development

We choose the positive direction, the direction of the crate's movement and apply equation 1:

a)∑Fx = m*a

Fx-f= m*a

354.6 - 125 = 310*a

310*a = 229.6

a= \frac{229.6}{310}

a= 0.74 m/s²

b) ∑Fx = m*a  ,   m= W/g  = 310/9.8 =31.63 N

Fx-f= m*a

354.6 - 125 = 31.63*a

31.63*a  = 229.6

a= \frac{229.6}{31.63}

a= 7.26 m/s²

**Fill in the blanks**
Nataly_w [17]

Answer:

Word for the first blank: gravity

Word for the second blank: matter

Explanation:

The only way debris from the impact with Earth can be held close to Earth is due to a force. The only force that could be acting from Earth is "the force of gravity".

The gravitational pull of this new object being formed, increases proportional to its mass as more and more "matter" accumulates. And the accretion process is now on its way.

The mini-refrigerator fire was most likely caused by what type of wiring?
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer: The copper wiring most likely caused the mini-refrigerator fire.

Explanation: A mini-refrigerator may have one or more evaporator fan motors. These motors have copper wiring. In some situation these copper wires gets overheated. It may result to the firing of the mini-refrigerator.

Therefore, the mini-refrigerator fire was most likely caused by copper wiring.

Sitting in a chairlift, Rebecca has a gravitational potential energy of 5,997.6
stira [4]

Answer:

B) 12 m

Explanation:

Gravitational potential energy is:

PE = mgh

Given PE = 5997.6 J, and m = 51 kg:

5997.6 J = (51 kg) (9.8 m/s²) h

h = 12 m

How much would a 15.0 kg object weigh on Neptune?
yan [13]
The gravity on Neptune is 11.15 m/s²
the gravity on earth is 9.81 m/s²
divide the Neptune and earth gravity we get 1.13
which means object on neptune is 1.13 heavier than earth
yield, weigh of the object on neptune is 1.13×15=17.04kg
