Y = x + 5
y = -5x -1

so than you make y = y so x + 5 = -5x -1 result 6x = -6 so x = -6/6 so x = -1
and than you check it

y = - 1 +5 = 4
and
y = - 5 *(-1) -1 = 5 -1 = 4

so this mean that - 1 is the solution of the system sure

Lesechka [4]

Answer:

x = -3, y = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

first, take the 3x + 17 = y and put it in place for the y in the second equation.

-3x=4x+17+4

then, solve the equation.

-3x=4x+21

-3x-4x=4x-4x+21

-7x=21

-7/-7x=21/-7

x = -3

substitute in other equation

4(-3) + 17 = y

-12 + 17 = y

y = 5

answers are x = -3 and y = 5
