The answer is leukoplakia.  Leukoplakia is a condition in which thick, leathery white spots develop in the mouth. Smoking is the leading cause of leukoplakia, so people addicted to smokeless tobacco at a very high risk of developing the disease. Mild leukoplakia is generally harmless and would typically resolve on its own but more severe cases may be linked to oral cancer.
