Slope-intercept form:   y = mx + b   [m is the slope, b is the y-intercept or the y value when x = 0 ---> (0, y)]

Since you know:

m = 4

b=-\frac{8}{9}        Plug it into the equation

y = mx + b

y=4x-\frac{8}{9}

\bf (\stackrel{x_1}{0}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{-\frac{8}{9}}) ~\hspace{10em} \stackrel{slope}{m}\implies 4 \\\\\\ \begin{array}{|c|ll} \cline{1-1} \textit{point-slope form}\\ \cline{1-1} \\ y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\\\ \cline{1-1} \end{array}\implies y-\stackrel{y_1}{\left(-\cfrac{8}{9} \right)}=\stackrel{m}{4}(x-\stackrel{x_1}{0}) \\\\\\ y+\cfrac{8}{9}=4x\implies y = 4x-\cfrac{8}{9}

Which set of ordered pairs represents a function? {(−1,−3),(0,−7),(3,3),(3,−4)} {(7,9),(−5,7),(−5,8),(4,−4)} {(−6,−1),(−8,4),(−5
Jlenok [28]

Ordered pair{(−6,−1),(−8,4),(−5,4),(3,−9)} from the given set of ordered pairs represents the function.

As given in the question,

Given set of ordered pairs following is the one which represents the function :

  • {(−1,−3),(0,−7),(3,3),(3,−4)}

In the given set of ordered pair for input value 3 there are two outputs 3 and -4 , therefore it is not a function.

  • {(7,9),(−5,7),(−5,8),(4,−4)}

In the given set of ordered pair for input value -5 there are two outputs 7 and 8 , therefore it is not a function.

  • {(−6,−1),(−8,4),(−5,4),(3,−9)}

In the given set of ordered pair each input has unique single output. Therefore it is a function.

  • {(−1,0),(−1,−4),(8,−3),(−4,−6)}

In the given set of ordered pair for input value -1 there are two outputs 0 and -4 , therefore it is not a function.

Therefore, ordered pair{(−6,−1),(−8,4),(−5,4),(3,−9)}  from the given set of ordered pairs represents the function.
