Let the width be "x" cm.

Then the length is "x+12" cm

And the area = x(x+12) = x^2+12x cm^2

----------------------------

Change the dimensions:

width = "x-2" cm

length = "x+10" cm

New area = (x-2)(x+10) = x^2 + 8x - 20 cm^2

------------------

Equations :

Old area - New area = 108 cm^2

x^2+12x -(x^2 + 8x - 20) = 108

4x + 20 = 108

4x = 88

x = 22 cm (original width)

x+12 = 24 cm (original length)

BigorU [14]

Answer:

17.) 12

18.) 1/15

Step-by-step explanation:

2 ÷ \frac{1}{6}

This problem is asking how many \frac{1}{6} 's can go into 2 blocks.  If you divide one box into 6 parts, each tiny box will be \frac{1}{6} of the whole. Divide the other box into 6 parts as well, and you will get 12 of these \frac{1}{6} parts.  Check your answer by multiplying 12 by \frac{1}{6}.  The answer is \frac{12}{6} which is also equal to 2.

\frac{1}{3} ÷ 5

For this one, think of it as we have one big box divided into thirds. We want to divide each  \frac{1}{3} portion by 5. So you should have 5 tiny boxes in each \frac{1}{3} which gives you a total of 15 boxes.  But if we look at it as one big box divided into 15 parts, we know that each of those is \frac{1}{15}.  Check your answer by multiplying \frac{1}{15} by 5 and you get \frac{5}{15} which is equal to \frac{1}{3}.

Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!

A standard pair of six-sided dice is rolled. What is the probability of rolling a sum less than 7? Express your answer as a frac
zzz [600]

Answer:

0.4167 is the probability of rolling a sum less than 7.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following in the question:

Event: A standard pair of six-sided dice is rolled

A: rolling a sum less than 7

Sample space:

{(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(1,5),(1,6)

(2,1),(2,2),(2,3),(2,4),(2,5),(2,6)

(3,1),(3,2),(3,3),(3,4),(3,5),(3,6)

(4,1),(4,2),(4,3),(4,4),(4,5),(4,6)

(5,1),(5,2),(5,3),(5,4),(5,5),(5,6)

(6,1),(6,2),(6,3),(6,4),(6,5),(6,6)}

A:

{(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(1,5),(2,1),(2,2),(2,3),(2,4),(3,1),(3,2),(3,3),(4,1),(4,2),(5,1)}

Formula:

\text{Probability} = \displaystyle\frac{\text{Number of favourable outcomes}}{\text{Total number of outcomes}}

P(A) = \dfrac{15}{36} = 0.4167

0.4167 is the probability of rolling a sum less than 7.
