To understad the threats to internal validity during this research, the element that has to be considerate this case is history. The event in time that occure  during the experiment, was the rising of the price of gasoline per gallon. Good wireless and better wireless merge to form best wireless. the federal government watches this merger carefully for evidence of a <u>monopoly.</u>

<u></u>

In 1982, AT&T, the world's largest phone company, was compelled to split into a number of smaller phone companies, providing one of the clearest examples of the dissolution of a monopolistic power. The division of the company into about seven regional bell operating businesses comprised Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, NYNEX, Pacific Telesis, Southwestern Bell, and U.S. West.

These RBOCs ultimately started merging, although it took more than a decade. Beginning in 1996, mergers first began to occur. Eventually, Southwestern Bell, which had changed its name to SBC, bought Pacific Telesis and Ameritech in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In 2005, SBC also acquired the remainder of AT&T. Verizon later took the name Bell Atlantic after GTE purchased it in 2000. Currently, AT&T and Verizon dominate both the expanding mobile phone industry and the shrinking fixed-line business, which together make up the majority of the phone market.

In an effort to equal Verizon, the market leader at the time, AT&T made (and then abandoned) a proposal to acquire T-Mobile in 2011. Verizon was AT&T's main competitor. Since the initial AT&T's division, the dynamics of the industry have significantly evolved. The number of players in the U.S. phone market is decreasing, despite the fact that it still doesn't consist of just one company.

Conflict theorists were critical of parsons's structural functionalist theory because they argued it presented <u>"an unrealistic image of consenus and harmony in society."</u>

Structural  functionalism is the theoretical viewpoint that looks to comprehend the capacity that every part of culture plays in supporting the structure of a general public. In trying to do this, one of its fundamental premises is the possibility that people and culture work with a specific end goal to help the structure of their general public. As a structural functionalist, Parsons was, extremely keen on the possibility of social request. In the same way as other of his auxiliary functionalist cohorts, he held to the utilitarian hypothesis of stratification, the possibility that various leveled class frameworks and requests were essential for society to work.
