A set of data has a high-value outlier. How do you expect the standard deviation to change when the outlier is removed? Would th

e result be different if the data had a low-value outlier instead? Explain.

When you have an outlier that is higher then the bulk of the data, the standard deviation is larger then it would be without the outlier. If the outlier was lower than the bulk of data, then the standard deviation would again be larger then it would be without the outlier and the mean would go down when the outlier is removed. Where it differs is the fact that removing the outlier would result in an increase of the mean instead of a decrease.

In short, any high or low value outlier affect the data set the same way. When the outlier is removed, the standard deviation decreases.

Answer:

Check each of the components below that you included in your response.

The standard deviation will decrease when the outlier is removed.

Standard deviation represents the spread of data from the mean.

Removing a high-value outlier decreases the spread of data from the mean.

Removing a low-value outlier decreases the spread of data from the mean.

In both cases the standard deviation decreases.

In the year 2000, the population of
tigry1 [53]

Answer: 59106

Step-by-step explanation:

We would apply the formula for exponential decay which is expressed as

A = P(1 - r)^ t

Where

A represents the population after t years.

t represents the number of years.

P represents the initial population.

r represents rate of growth.

From the information given,

P = 60000

r = 0.1% = 0.1/100 = 0.001

t = 2015 - 2000 = 15 years

Therefore

A = 60000(1 - 0.001)^15

A = 60000(0.999)^15

A = 59106

I have a slope of -4 (m=-4), would that be negative four over positive one or would that be negative 4 over negative one?
katrin [286]
If you have a slope of -4 then it would be -4/1 because rise/run. If it were -4/-1 then the slope would be 4.
