Y = mx + b. Use this equation for most linear functions. Enter the information that is given to you.
- 6 =  - 3(4) + b
Multiply the -3 and 4 to get 12.
-6 =  - 12 + b
Now divide the -12 from both sides.
\frac{ - 6}{ - 12}  =   \frac{ - 12}{ - 12}  + b
-12 cancels out on the right side and your left with
- \frac {1}{2}  = b
Now re-enter the info back into the formula.
y =  - 3x  -  \frac{1}{2}
Then you've got your formula

A vertical number line is given.
Ad libitum [116K]

The absolute value of the number plotted on the number line is; 0.5

<h3>How to find Absolute Value?</h3>

The absolute value (or modulus) | x | of a real number x is the non-negative value of x without regard to its sign. For example, the absolute value of 5 is 5, and the absolute value of −5 is also 5. The absolute value of a number may be thought of as its distance from zero along real number line

Thus, if 0.5 is marked on the number line, from the given options, we can say that if we apply the definition above that |0.5| = 0.5

Setler [38]

Answer:

x = 136/35; y = -⁹/₁₀

Step-by-step explanation:

(1)         7x + 8y = 20

(2)        7x – 2y = 29       Subtract (2) from (1)

                  10y =  -9        Divide each side by 10

(3)                 y =  -⁹/₁₀     Substitute (3) into (1)

      7x - 2(-⁹/₁₀) = 29

      7x + 18/10  = 29                       Subtract 18/10 from each side

      7x              =      29 - 18/10

      7x              = (290 - 18)/10

      7x              =          272/10        Divide each side by 7

        x              =           272/70

        x              =           136/35

x = 136/35; y = -⁹/₁₀

Check:

(1) 7(136/35) + 8(-⁹/₁₀) = 20

      136/5    -   72/10 = 20

      136/5    -   36/5  = 20

                      100/5  = 20

                       20      = 20

(2) 7(136/35) – 2(-⁹/₁₀)  = 29

       136/5    +    18/10 = 29

       136/5    +      ⁹/₅    = 29

                        145/5  = 29

                        29       = 29
