You can tell if it is going to be negative if there is a number with a greater value. for example -14 minus 7. that would be -7 
You can tell if it is positive if one number has a bigger value. for example 12-(-6)=6
And if it is zero it would be something like this
-7+7 sorry that's hard to explain in words hoped this helped you
