To add integers there are few rules. if your adding a negative and a negative, the answer is always negative

When adding two positive integers, the sum will be a positive integer.

8 + 5 = 13

When adding two negative integers the sum will also be a negative integer.

-6 + -5 = -11

When adiing unlike signs, find the absolute value of both numbers then subtract the numbers.

-6 + 7
|-6| = 6 , |+7| = 7 
6 - 7 = -1

When adding an integer and its opposite, the sum will always be zero.

4 + -4 = 0
