Three basic types of power that many governments have are legislative, executive, and judicial. Each of those types serves different function and responsibility.

EXPLANATION:

The modern democratic system nowadays is generally based on the concept of the doctrine “separation of powers”. Yet, the power is entrusted in one authority, such as king or president. It is considered as an ideal democratic state. The three basic powers of government are divided into three basic organs: the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary. The Legislature is to legislate, The Executive is to implement, and the Judiciary is to adjudicate.

The Legislature

Legislature is the policy and law-making party. Normally, the new policies and laws are introduced in the State Legislature/Parliament in the form of Bills. Then, it is sent to the President for approval. Once the Bills get the President’s approval, it becomes the authorized law and policy.

• The Executive

Executive is the party who is responsible for the effective implementation of the laws and policies passed by the Legislature. The Executive consists of President, Vice President, and the Council of Ministers and the Attorney General.

• The Judiciary

Judiciary is the most important party in government power. This party is responsible for protecting citizens’ interests and fundamental rights. The Judiciary is also responsible to keep a tab on the government’s activities and in the event of citizens’ fundamental rights’ violation. The Judiciary holds the authority to study the validity of the laws.
