A pottery wheel, initially at rest, is assumed to be a uniform disk of mass 3.0 kg and radius 20.0 cm. A 25.0 N force is applied

tangentially to the rim.
(a) What is the angular acceleration of this pottery wheel?
(b) If the force is applied for 30.0 sec, find the instantaneous angular velocity at 30.0 sec.
(c) What will be the angular displacement for this wheel from t= 15 s until t= 30s?

Answer:

a) 83.33 rad/s^2

b) 2500 rad/s

c) 6187.5 rad

Explanation:

Given data:

radius of wheel = 20.0 cm

mass of wheel = 3.0 kg

force = 25 N

a) angular acceleration

we know torque is given as

T = I \times \alpha

F\times R = I \times \alpha

F\times R = \frac{1}{2} mR^2 \times \alpha

solving for angular acceleration \alpha

\alpha = \frac{2F}{mR} = \frac{2*25}{3*0.2} = 83.33 rad/s^2

b)  angular velocity

duartion of force applied = 30.0 sec

\omega_{30} = \omega_0 +alpha t

                      = o + 83.33 *30 = 2500 rad/sec

c) angular displacement

\theta_{15} = = \omega_0 +\frac{1}{2} alpha t_{15}^2 = 0 + \frac{1}{2} 83.33 \times 15^2

\theta_{30} = \omega_0 +\frac{1}{2} alpha t_{30}^2 = 0 + \frac{1}{2} 83.33 \times 30^2

\Delta \theta = \theta_{30} - \theta_{15}

\Delta \theta = 6187.5 rad

Answer:

larger, because her angular speed is larger.

Explanation:

The rotational kinetic energy is proportional to the square of the angular velocity while it is linearly proportional to the moment of inertia. So the increase of angular speed will have a larger effect of the kinetic energy than the decrease of the moment of inertia.

An airplane travels east at an air speed of 400.0 m/s into a head wind of 35.0 m/s. What is the airplane's ground speed?
mezya [45]

Velocity of the plane relative to the air = +400.0 m/s

Velocity of the air relative to the ground = -35.0 m/s (negative because it's moving opposite to the eastward direction)

Velocity of the plane relative to the ground = (velocity of the plane relative to the air) + (velocity of the air relative to the ground) = 365.0 m/s to the east

The work done in holding a 30kg of bricks to a height of 20m is
ella [17]
The work done to "HOLD" a load of bricks at any height is zero.
Work is done only when force acts through a DISTANCE.

The work done to LIFT 30 kg of anything to 20m higher than
it already is, is

(force) · (vertical distance)

= (mass) · (gravity) · (vertical distance)

= (30 kg) · (9.8 m/s²) · (20 m)

= 5,880 joules

Sunny_sXe [5.5K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Torque created by force 3.34N

= 3.34 x 1.39 = 4.64 N.m

This torque is acting in clockwise direction .

Torque created by force 8.52 N

8.52 x .48

= 4.09 N.m

The force of 8.52 N is acting downward . It may turn the cylinder in clockwise or anticlockwise direction . So we shall consider both the possibilities.

If it rotates the cylinder in clockwise direction

Total torque = 4.64 + 4.09

= 8.73 Nm

If it rotates the cylinder in anticlockwise direction

Total torque = 4.64 - 4.09

= .55 Nm

Net torque will be in clockwise direction.
