Which function below has the lowest y intercept? f(x) graph going through (0, 5) and (2, 1) g(x) Kyle started the summer having
mr Goodwill [35]
First find the slope of f(x).

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m=(1-5)/(2-0)

m=-4/2

m=-2

y=-2x+b, using (2,1) we can solve for the y-intercept, "b"

1=-2(2)+b

1=-4+b

5=b

y=-2x+5

So f(x) has a y-intercept of 5

g(x)=6m+3

So g(x) has a y-intercept of 3

h(x)=3x+4

So h(x) has a y-intercept of 4

Then g(x) has the lowest y-intercept of just 3.

Four students were discussing how to find the unit rate for a proportional relationship. Which method is valid?
vovangra [49]

Answer:

The method that is valid in finding the unit rate for a proportional relationship is by:

Look at the graph of the relationship. Count the number of units up and the number of units to the right one must move to arrive at the next point on the graph. Write these two numbers as a fraction. The unit rate is the slope, which is the rise over run.

Help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ElenaW [278]
So 20% is 1/5 as a percent.

So 1/5 multiplied by 5 equals 5/5, or 1.

So if 1/5 = 6, then 6 multiplied by 5, or 30, must equal 5/5, or 1.

So the total number of dolls in Amyia's doll collection is 30.

Five years ago I was 5 times older than my son. In 8 years’ time I will be 3 times older than my son. How old am I today?
o-na [289]

Let x = Parent's age now  y = son's age now

Then, x-5 = parent's age five years ago

        y-5 = son's age five years ago

     So, x-5 = 5(y-5)

          Simplify to get x - 5y = -20

Parent's age 8 years from now = x+8

Son's age 8 years from now = y+8

    So, x+8 = 3(y+8)

           Simplifying, we have x - 3y = 16

We have the system of equations:  x - 5y = -20

                                                  x - 3y = 16

Subtract the equations to obtain -2y = -36

                                                  y = 18

                                                  x = 70

Parent is 70 years old and the son is 18 years old.
