During a hypoglycemic crisis, the patient should have a glass of orange juice, or non-diet soda, or half a glass of water sweetened with a sugar spoon, or suck on candy to replenish glucose levels. In addition, the body itself attempts to combat hypoglycemia by releasing the hormones glucagon, epinephrine, cortisol and growth hormone.
