Hypoglycemia is a dizzying drop in blood sugar levels. When this occurs, symptoms such as dizziness, pallor and mental confusion arise. This problem is more common in patients with diabetes due to blood glucose fluctuation, but can also occur in completely healthy individuals who have spent several hours without eating.

During a hypoglycemic crisis, the patient should have a glass of orange juice, or non-diet soda, or half a glass of water sweetened with a sugar spoon, or suck on candy to replenish glucose levels. In addition, the body itself attempts to combat hypoglycemia by releasing the hormones glucagon, epinephrine, cortisol and growth hormone.
