Based on his past actions of following the regimens prescribed by other doctors, he seems to want to lose weight and do better. The best way is to entirely avoid the point of temptation and try to keep it out of sight and out of mind. being kind is important since people react better to kindness rather than control, showing how much you care could cause the patient to want to do better.
