A variable expression contain one or more variable terms added or subtracted. b) any one of many numbers to indicate a general principle. A constant is a single number. A coefficient is a number "in front of" a variable.

chris is five times as old as Zac. in thirty years chris will be twice zac's age. how old is zac now?
viktelen [127]
Zac's age=x
Chris's age=5x

After 30 years
Zac's age=x+30
Chris's age =5x+30=2(x+30)
5x+30=2x+60
5x-2x=60-30
3x=30
x=10

THE X-INTERCEPT OF THE LINE X=3.5 IS
tiny-mole [99]
Well.. for the equation x= 3.5, let's take a look at its values
\bf \begin{array}{lrlll}
x&y\\
\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash&\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\textendash\\
3.5&-\infty\\
3.5&-1,000,000\\
3.5&-1,000\\
3.5&-100\\
3.5&-10\\
3.5&-1\\
3.5&0\\
3.5&1\\
3.5&10\\
3.5&100\\
3.5&1,000\\
3.5&1,000,000\\
3.5&1+\infty
\end{array}

so.. notice.. no matter what "y" is, "x"  will always be 3.5,
so is really just a horizontal line, thus, look at the picture below

What does 13+[2(9-6)] equal and how do I solve it?
Margarita [4]

Answer:

19

Step-by-step explanation:

you begin with the innermost parentheses, which is 9-6

9-6=3

you then move to the brackets, which has the 2 and tour answer from before, 3. You multiply 2 and 3 and get 6. You then add the 6 plus the 13 on the outside.

13+6=19

11. Isaac wrote two simplified expressions that were not equal to each other. Each equation also had
Elodia [21]

Answer:

The equation has only one solution

Step-by-step explanation:

* Lets explain how to solve the problem

- There are three types of solutions for the equations

<u>Case (1)</u>

# Two sides of the equation have <u><em>different coefficient of the variable</em></u>

and <u><em>same or different numerical terms</em></u>, then the equation has only

   one solution

- Ex: 2x + 5 = x + 5, lets solve it

∵ 2x + 5 = x + 5

- subtract x from both sides

∴ x + 5 = 5

- Subtract 5 from both sides

∴ x = 0

- Zero is a solution

∴ The solution of the equation is x = 0

- <em>If the numerical terms are different x will be any other value, so the</em>

<em>  equation has only one solution</em>

∴ The equation has one solution

<u>Case (2)</u>

# Two sides of the equation have <u><em>same coefficient of the variable</em></u>,

and <u><em>different numerical terms</em></u>, then the equation has no solution

- Ex: 14x - 20 = 14x + 10, lets solve it

∵ 14x - 20 = 14x + 10

- Subtract 14x from both sides

∴ - 20 = 10

- The left hand side not equal the right hand side , then there is

no value of x can make the two sides equal

∴ The equation has no solution

<u>Case (3)</u>

# Two sides of the equation have <u><em>same coefficient of the variable</em></u>,

and <u><em>same numerical terms</em></u>, then the equation has infinitely

  many solutions

- Ex: 3x + 5 = 3x + 5, lets solve it

∵ 3x + 5 = 3x + 5

- Subtract 3x from both sides

∴ 5 = 5

- The left hand side is equal to the right hand side , then x can be

any value because the two sides is already equal without x

∴ The equation has infinitely many solutions

∵ He will write two expressions simplified , not equal , have different

coefficients on the variables and equate them, then it is like

  the first case

- That means not same coefficient of the variable, and may be not

 same numerical term

∴ The equation has only one solution
