$=\frac{62 x}{100}=\frac{31 x}{50}$

So current population is $\frac{31 x}{50}$

Equating above expression to the given value of current population, we get

$\frac{31 x}{50}=27900$

$x=\frac{27900 \times 50}{31}$

x=45000

Hence previous population of city was 45000.
