A heat engine operates at 30% of its maximum possible efficiency and needs to do 995 J of work. Its cold reservoir is at 22 ºC a

nd its hot reservoir is at 610 ºC. (a) How much energy does it need to extract from the hot reservoir? (b) How much energy does it deposit in the cold reservoir?

Answer:

(a) The energy  extracted from the hot reservoir (Qh) is 3316.67J

(b) The energy deposited in the cold reservoir (Qc) is 2321.67J

Explanation:

Part (a) The energy  extracted from the hot reservoir (Qh)

e = W/Qh

where;

e is the maximum efficiency of the system = 30% = 0.3

W is the the work done on the system = 995 J

Qh is the heat absorbed from the hot reservoir

Qh = W/e

Qh = 995/0.3

Qh = 3316.67J

Part (b) The energy deposited in the cold reservoir (Qc)

e = W/Qh

W = Qh - Qc

where;

Qc is the heat deposited in the cold reservoir

e = (Qh - Qc)/Qh

Qh - Qc = e*Qh

Qc = Qh - e*Qh

Qc = 3316.67J - 0.3*3316.67J

Qc = 3316.67J - 995J

Qc = 2321.67J

How much energy must a refrigerator absorb from 225 g of water so that the temperature of the water will drop from 35°c to 5°c
patriot [66]

Heat energy required to change the temperature is given by

Q = ms\Delta T

here we know that

m = 225 g = 0.225 kg

s = 4186 J/kg C

T_i = 5 ^0C

T_f = 35 ^0C

now from above formula we will have

Q = (0.225 kg)(4186 J/kg C) (35 - 5)

Q = 28255.5 J

So it will remove 28255.5 J heat from the water

In which of these samples do the molecules most likely have the most kinetic energy? (2 points)
Vinvika [58]

D, water vapor. Gaseous state would have more kinetic energy, they are moving faster. If you have to compare the same state, then higher temperature would have the higher kinetic energy. But if you have solid and liquid at the same temperature - then liquid would have more.

It is always a good idea to get some sense of the "size" of units. For example, the mass of an apple is about 100 g , whereas a

Answer and Explanation:

The estimation of the mass of the objects is as follows

Given that

The mass of an apple is about 100 g

Just like that, we do some estimation of different objects

A dime is around 1 g

A smartphone is about 100 g

An adult male is approx 100 kg

A college physics textbook is around 1 kg

A ripe banana is around 100 g

A small car is around 1,000 kg

The Sears Tower in Chicago is approximately 444 m tall Suppose a book
Reptile [31]

Answer:

A. 66.0 m/s downwards

Explanation:

The Tower has a height of 444m

The book is dropped ,finding the velocity of the book 222m above the ground, means the book will be on air for a  height of 222 m .

Apply the formula for free fall in a horizontal projection as;

h= u²×sin²∅ /2g  where

h= maximum height =222m

g= acceleration due to gravity =9.81 m/s²

∅ = projectile angle = 0

u = velocity of the book

Applying the formula as ;

h= u²×sin²∅ /2g

222 = u²/2*9.81

222*19.62 = u²

4355.64 = u²

√4355.64 = u

65.99 m/s = u

66 m/s  downwards
