You are driving at 35 m/s east and notice another car that is initially located 462 m in front of you and is moving east at 25 m
GaryK [48]

The easiest way to answer this question is by realizing there are relating the velocities of the two cars. To tackle this problem, you have to understand the picture. Car 1 travels at 35m/s and Car 2 travels at 25m/s. Based on relative velocities, we can understand that Car 1 travels 10m/s faster than Car 2 every second. So we can interpret Car 1's relative velocity to Car 2 as 10m/s. Car 1 needs to travel 10m/s till a point of catching up to Car 2 which is 462m away.

v = 10m/s

d = 462m

v = d/t

(10) = (462)/t

t = 46.2s

So it takes 46.2 seconds for Car 1 to catch up to Car 2, but the question is asking how far does Car 1 travel to catch up. So we have to use Car 1's velocity and not the relative velocity:

v = 35m/s

v = d/t

(35) = d/(46.2)

d = 1617m

Car 1 traveled a total distance of 1617m.

If a simple machine reduces the strength of a force, what must be increased?
rodikova [14]

Answer:

Option D

Explanation:

The answer is option D or "the distance over which the force is applied." Since basic machinery is created to lessen the work for us humans reducing the strength of the force means that the distance which where the force is needed to be applied needs to be increased. Increasing the distance for the machine makes it all around more efficient. One of the most common examples of basic machinery is a rake. When using a rake, you do not need to apply as much force into it to make the rake efficient. If you increase the distance on where you are raking, then the amount you are raking increases, which means it's all-around efficiency increases.

Hope this helps.

18. Wind speed on Earth is reduced by which?
Genrish500 [490]

Answer:

Temperature reduces the wind speed on earth.

Explanation:

 • Wind speed is an atmospheric quantity that causes the wind to flow from high to low level due to a change in temperature.
 • Wind speed is controlled by the pressure gradient factor and it increases the wind speed with increase in pressure gradient.
 • Wind speed decreases with an increase in temperature value as it absorbs the heat developed in the system and wind gets slowed down.
 • Wind speed is measured in velocity and anemometer is used to measure the rate of wind speed.

How do veins control the flow of blood
Alik [6]
Answer: Blood primarily moves in the veins by the rhythmic movement of smooth muscle in the vessel wall and by the action of the skeletal muscle as the body moves. Because most veins must move blood against the pull of gravity, blood is prevented from flowing backward in the veins by one-way valves.

Good luck !
