Maria and Edwin have $23.00 each to spend at a book fair, where all students receive a 25% discount. They both want to purchase

a copy of the same book, which normally sells for $26.50 plus 10% sales tax. To check if she has enough to purchase the book, Maria takes 25% of $26.50 and subtracts that amount from the normal price. She takes 10% of the discounted selling price and adds it back to find the purchase amount. Edwin takes 75% of the normal purchase price and then computes 110% of the reduced price. Is Maria correct? Is Edwin correct? Do they have enough money to purchase the book? Explain your answer using complete sentences, and show your work.

The way Maria calculates the final price of the book is correct. We know that the book normally sells for $26.50 plus a 10% sales tax. We also know that the students will receive an additional 25% discount. We must understand that the sales tax is applied to the discounted price. So first we will calculate 25% of 26.50 and subtract it from that amount. So the price will then be: (26.50 - 6.625). The price is now $18.34. Then to calculate the tax, it will be (10% * 18.34), so 1.834. We add this amount to the discounted price so: (18.34+1.834) = 20.12.

The final price of the book is $20.12 and Maria can get it and still save a little money

They are both correct, the only difference is Maria did a two step process and Edwin did a one step process the total amount it would cost is $21.87 with $1.13 left over.

The tables below show the values of Y for different values of X
pogonyaev

Answer:

Option D

Step-by-step explanation:

Rate of change of a linear function between two points (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_2) is given by,

Rate of change 'm' = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

From the given table,

Rate of change of the function between (-2, 6) and (-4, 9),

Rate of change 'm' = \frac{9-6}{-4-(-2)}

                           m = \frac{3}{-2}

Initial value = y-intercept

Let the equation of the line passing through a point (h, k) is,

y - k = m(x - h)

If a point (-2, 6) is lying on the graph of the function,

y - 6 = -\frac{3}{2}(x+2)

y = -\frac{3}{2}x-3+6

y = -\frac{3}{2}x+3

Y-intercept of the function = 3

Therefore, initial value of the function = 3

Option D is the answer.

The ellipse with x-intercepts (2, 0) and (-2, 0); y-intercepts (0, 4) and (0, -4).
masya89 [10]

Answer:

\dfrac{x^2}{4}+\dfrac{y^2}{16}=1

Step-by-step explanation:

If the ellipse has its x-intercepts at points (2, 0) and (-2, 0) and y-intercepts at points (0, 4) and (0, -4), then its symmetric across the y-axis and across the x-axis.

Moreover,

a=2\\ \\b=4

The equation of such ellipse is

\dfrac{x^2}{a^2}+\dfrac{y^2}{b^2}=1

Hence, the equation of the ellipse is

\dfrac{x^2}{2^2}+\dfrac{y^2}{4^2}=1\\ \\ \\\dfrac{x^2}{4}+\dfrac{y^2}{16}=1

Please solve for the inverse variation equation
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

f(x) = \frac{1}{x-2} + 1

Step-by-step explanation:

First we identify the Vertical Asymptote. Which is at x = 2

The function has a VA only at the point where the denominator gives 0, so because we know x = 2 is the VA, the denominator will be x - 2.

Then we identify the Horizontal Asymptote, which is the behavior of the function for very large 'x', or the horizontal line of the graph on the y - axis. Which is at y = 1. So our function will go to 1, as x grows incredibly large.

But since our denominator is x - 2, the top remains 1, but we should add a 1 to the function so it really has a HA at y = 1.

f(x) = \frac{1}{x-2} + 1

The mayor of a town receives 75% of the votes in a town election. If 680 people voted, how many votes did the mayor receive? 360
7nadin3 [17]
First you need to put everything as 1 unit. I'll convert both to fractions for now.
75% = 3/4

680/1 * 3/4

Cross Multiply

2040/4

Simplify

510

The mayor received 510 votes.

A technology manufacturer is a supplier of fiber optic cables. They are interested in expanding their business and offering fibe
ExtremeBDS [4]

Answer:

B.alternative hypothesis

Step-by-step explanation:

In this case, the null hypothesis is that 45% of internet providers currently offer fiber optic internet in the United States.

The claim that the proportion of fiber optic internet providers is different from 45% is an alternative hypothesis since it directly contradicts the null hypothesis presented.

The answer is B. alternative hypothesis
