Answer: The average atomic mass of oxygen is 15.999 amu

Explanation:

Mass of isotope O-16 = 15.995 amu

% abundance of isotope O-16= 99.759 % = \frac{99.759}{100}=0.99759

Mass of isotope O-17 = 16.995 amu

% abundance of isotope O-17 = 0.037% = \frac{0.037}{100}=0.00037

Mass of isotope O-18 = 17.999 amu

% abundance of isotope O-18 = 0.204% = \frac{0.204}{100}=0.00204

Formula used for average atomic mass of an element :

\text{ Average atomic mass of an element}=\sum(\text{atomic mass of an isotopes}\times {{\text { fractional abundance}})

A=\sum[(15.995\times 0.99759)+(16.995\times 0.00037)+(17.999 \times 0.00204)]

A=15.999

Thus the average atomic mass of oxygen is 15.999 amu

Arada [10]

When a compound containing C, H and O is completely combusted in air what reactant besides the hydrocarbon is involved in the reaction is Oxygen.

<h3>What is hydrocarbon?</h3>

A hydrocarbon is an organic molecule composed completely of hydrogen and carbon in organic chemistry. Group 14 hydrides include hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are often colourless and hydrophobic, with scents that are weak or exemplified by gasoline and lighter fluid. They exist in a wide range of molecular forms and phases, including gases (like methane and propane), liquids (like hexane and benzene), low melting solids (like paraffin wax and naphthalene), and polymers (such as polyethylene and polystyrene). Hydrocarbon refers to naturally occurring petroleum, natural gas, and coal, as well as their hydrocarbon derivatives and refined forms, in the fossil fuel industry. The primary source of energy on the planet is the combustion of hydrocarbons.

Do electrons spin in the same direction within an orbital?
tester [92]

Answer:

in an atom or molecule, no two electrons can have the same four electronic quantum numbers. As an orbital can contain a maximum of only two electrons, the two electrons must have opposing spins.

5. calculate the percentage of water of crystallization in blue vitriol (copper sulphate pentahydrate), cuso4.5h2o
ki77a [65]

The percentage of water of crystallization in blue vitriol is 36.07%.

M(H₂O) = 2Ar(H) + Ar(O) x g/mol

M(H₂O) = 2 + 16 x g/mol

M(H₂O) = 18 g/mol; molar mass of water

M(CuSO₄·5H₂O) = Ar(Cu) + Ar(S) + 4Ar(O) + 5Mr(H₂O) x g/mol

M(CuSO₄·5H₂O) = 63.5 + 32 + 64 + 90 x g/mol

M(CuSO₄·5H₂O) = 249.5 g/mol; molar mass of copper sulphate pentahydrate

The percentage of water: 5M(H₂O) / M(CuSO₄·5H₂O) x 100%

The percentage of water: 90 g/mol / 249.5 g/mol x 100%

The percentage of water = 36.07%
