A rectangular piece of paper with length 35 cm and width 14 cm has two semicircles cut out of it, as shown below.
Ede4ka [16]

Answer: 336.14 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the area of the rectangle after being cut, we want to find the area of the two semicircles and subtract it from the area of the rectangle. The area of the rectangle is just base times height, or 35cm times 14cm = 490cm² . Since there are two semicircles with the same diameter, we can just solve for the area of a circle and subtract it. To find the area of the circle, we need the radius, which we get by dividing the diameter by 2. After that, we calculate the radius to be 7cm, squared and multiplied by 3.14 (area of a circle) to get 153.86 cm². Subtract the areas, and we get 490 - 153.86 = 336.14 cm²

Rosita paid$27.08, including tax , for her family to eat dinner at a restaurant. She wants to tip a whole dollar amount that is
Bumek [7]

A reasonable tip would be $5.00

Rosita paid $27.08 an wants to tip a whole dollar closest to 20%.

The first step is therefore to find out 20% of $27.08.

= 20% x 27.08

= $5.42

The closest whole dollar depends on the first decimal point.

If it is 5 and above, the tip would be $5 as we would round down.

If it is 4 and below, the tip would be $6 as we would round up.

The first decimal is 4 so we would round down to $5.00

The tip would therefore be $5.00

Help solve for x please (ignore my incorrect math)
IgorLugansk [536]

140° + ∠5 = 180°    same side interior angles    ⇒  ∠5 = 40°

∠2 ≅ ∠5    vertical angles   ⇒ ∠2 = 40°

∠8 = 53°   alternate interior angles

∠3 ≅ ∠8   vertical angles  ⇒ ∠3 = 53°

x + ∠2 + ∠3 = 180°  triangle sum theorem

x + 40° + 53° = 180°

x + 93° = 180°

x = 87°

Answer: 87°

Note: I just realized that there is an easier way to solve this:

∠9 + 53° + x = 180°   triangle sum theorem

140° + ∠9 = 180°  supplementary angles ⇒  ∠9 = 40°

40° + 53° + x = 180°

x + 93° = 180°

x = 87°

Use whichever solutions makes sense to you.
