Communications satellites are placed in a circular orbit where they stay directly over a fixed point on the equator as the earth

rotates. These are called geosynchronous orbits. The altitude of a geosynchronous orbit is 3.58×107m(≈22,000miles).What is the period of a satellite in a geosynchronous orbit?

Answer:

T = approximately 24 hs.

Explanation:

In order to keep the satellite over a fixed point on the equator, as the earth rotates, the satellite must have the same angular velocity that Earth has, which means that it must have a period equal to the time used by Earth to complete an entire rotation on itself, which is almost exactly 24 Hs.

Mathematically, this can be obtained taking into account that the force that keeps the satellite in orbit is the centripetal force, which is actually the gravitational force exerted by Earth, so we can write the following equality:

Fg = Fc ⇒ G*ms*me / (re +rsat)² = ms*ω²*(re +rsat)

By definition, ω =ΔФ / Δt

For a complete revolution, ΔФ = 2*π, and Δt = T (period of the rotation),

so we can replace ω by (2*π/T), solving then for T:

T= 86,313 sec. (24 hs are exactly 86,400 sec, so the value is actually very close to the theorical one).

puteri [66]

When one member of a binary star system is a black hole, and astronomers detect flickering x-rays coming from the system, these x-rays usually coming from a disk of material around the black hole (material that has been pulled from the companion star and is falling toward the black hole).

A binary black hole (BBH) is a system consisting of two black holes in close orbit around each other. Like black holes themselves, binary black holes are often divided into stellar binary black holes, formed either as remnants of high-mass binary star systems or by dynamic processes and mutual capture; and binary supermassive black holes, believed to be a result of galactic mergers.

For many years, proving the existence of binary black holes was made difficult because of the nature of black holes themselves and the limited means of detection available.

However, in the event that a pair of black holes were to merge, an immense amount of energy should be given off as gravitational waves, with distinctive waveforms that can be calculated using general relativity.

Therefore, during the late 20th and early 21st century, binary black holes became of great interest scientifically as a potential source of such waves and a means by which gravitational waves could be proven to exist. Binary black hole mergers would be one of the strongest known sources of gravitational waves in the universe, and thus offer a good chance of directly detecting such waves.

As the orbiting black holes give off these waves, the orbit decays, and the orbital period decreases. This stage is called binary black hole inspiral. The black holes will merge once they are close enough. Once merged, the single hole settles down to a stable form, via a stage called ringdown, where any distortion in the shape is dissipated as more gravitational waves. In the final fraction of a second the black holes can reach extremely high velocity, and the gravitational wave amplitude reaches its peak.

A human hair is approximately is 50um in diameter. express this diameter in meters
stealth61 [152]

50 μm = 5 × 10⁻⁵ m in diameter

Steps

1μm = 1 x 10^{-6}m

Given

1μm = 1 x 10^{-6}m

50μm = 50 x 10^{-6}m

50μm = 50 x 10 x 10^{-6}

50μm = 5 x 10^{-5}m

Conclusion

A human hair is approximately 50 μm = 5 × 10⁻⁵ m in diameter

How big is a human hair on average?

between 17 and 181 micrometers

The typical diameter of human hair can range from 17 micrometers to 181 micrometers, according to research. Using 50 micrometers as an average figure for its diameter, this translates to 50,000 nanometers.

What is a human hair's diameter in inches?

The finest hair is flaxen, with a diameter ranging from 1/1500 to 1/500 of an inch. the coarsest hair is black, measuring between 1/450 and 1/140 of an inch.

6 A simple ideal Rankine cycle with water as the working fluid operates between the pressure limits of 4 MPa in the boiler and 2
makvit [3.9K]

To solve this problem we will start by differentiating the values in each of the states of matter. Subsequently through the thermodynamic tables we will look for the values related to the entropy, enthalpy and respective specific volumes. Through the relationship of Power defined as the product between mass and enthalpy and mass, specific volume and pressure, we will find the energetic values in the two states investigated. We will start defining the states

State 1

T_1 = 700\°C

P_1 = 4 Mpa

From steam table

h_1 =3906.41 KJ/Kg

s_1 = 7.62 KJ/Kg.K

Now

s_1 = s_2 = 7.62 KJ/Kg.K As 1-2 is isentropic

State 2

P_2 = 20 Kpa

s_2 = 7.62 KJ/Kg \cdot K

From steam table

h_2 = 2513.33 KJ/Kg

PART A) The power produced by turbine is the product between the mass and the enthalpy difference, then

Power = m \times (h_1-h_2)

P = (50)(3906.41 - 2513.33)

P = 69654kW

b) Pump Work

State 3

P_3 = 20 Kpa

\upsilon= 0.001 m^3/kg

The Work done by the pump is

W= m\upsilon \Delta P

W = (50)(0.001)(4000-20)

W = 199kJ
