Answer

The Interests can be balanced through;

• Undertaking habitat protection

• Relocating prairie dog colonies

• Maintaining the peace by preventing conflict

• Combating plagues through treatment and research

• Use of conservation education

Explanation

Prairie dogs are among the rodents who burrow in soil and are located in huge numbers in the grasslands of the central and western North America. The species include the black-tailed, Mexican, Gunnison’s and the Utah. The main contribution of the species is that their colonies create islands of habitats that help other species. The problem facing these species are targets from ranchers that believe in a false campaign that cattle fall/frequently trip on the burrow holes thus their colonies are cleared by bulldozers for housing development. In addition to that, they also shot the animals for sports. It is because of this siege on the species that The Prairie Dog Coalition is fighting to protect these species through public education, preventing the conflict, changing position of project and habitat protection.
