When oil spilled from the Exxon Valdez oil tanker in 1989 into Alaska's pristine waters, animals and birds felt the immediate ef

fects. For example, shortly after the spill, one quarter of a million seabirds, 2,800 otters, 300 harbor seals, 247 bald eagles, and 22 orcas were killed. Decades after the spill, oil can still be found on the shoreline. How could this happen?

Answer:

Oil immediately interferes with physical properties of feathers, hair and respiration, making it impossible for many animals to function properly.

Explanation:

For example, birds such as seabirds and bald eagles have to dive or get in the water at least partially in order to catch the fish they eat. Oil makes it impossible for these birds to locate their prey and when they get in contact with oil it makes it impossible for them to fly and be insulated against the cold. Otters and seals also lose insulation against cold water when their hair gets covered with oil and die of hypothermia. Orcas suffer from skin and eye irritation when they get in contact with oil and it may cause problems if it gets swallowed.

Which of the following accurately identifies the chemical basis of Chargaff's rule?
sergiy2304 [10]

Answer:

The chemical basis of Chargaff"s rule is the bonding properties of  the DNA bases.

Explanation:

According to the Chargaff"s rule in a DNA molecule the total number of purine bases are equal with the total number of pyrimidine bases  that means

   Adenine +Guanine=Thymine +Cytosine

In simple words the rule is based on the 1:1 ratio of both purine and pyrimidine bases.

Which of these species would be most in danger of becoming extinct if one of their food sources became unavailable?
Advocard [28]

Answer:

Due to their being no options (possibly just an incomplete question), I will just give an answer. So for panda bears, if their food sources became unavailable, they would most likely be in danger of becoming extinct.

But one thing is, pandas do have the ability to survive with bamboo.

But since bamboo comprises 99 percent of their food, although they also consume other plants and even meat, I highly doubt they could (whose make the remaining 1 percent ).

Because the gene T1R1 mutated some 4 million years ago, causing them to lose the ability to taste umami, giant pandas have come to rely significantly on bamboo (which is what makes meat tasty for omnivores and carnivores). The availability of bamboo trunks at the time coincided with their purported food source becoming increasingly limited, thus pandas became used to them and began to rely significantly on them, as they do now.

Thank you,

Eddie
