Answer:

The option B is correct, i.e. 6 mph.

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose Samantha swim in still water at speed of X mph.

If the river flows at 4 mph,

Then Upstream speed = (X-4) mph.

And Downstream speed = (X+4) mph.

Samantha swam upstream for some distance in one hour. She then swam downstream the same river for the same distance in only 12 minutes.

It means <u>Distance upstream = Distance downstream</u>.

Speed upstream x Time upstream = Speed downstream x Time downstream.

(x-4) * 1 = (x+4) * 12/60

x - 4 = 0.2x + 0.8

x - 0.2x = 0.8 + 4

0.8x = 4.8

x = 4.8/0.8 = 6 mph.

Hence, the option B is correct, i.e. 6 mph.

\huge\boxed{3.7\ \times\ 10^{-2}}

First, you need to find where you can move the decimal point to so that there is only one non-zero digit to the left of it.

Move the decimal point, and that is the first part done.

Add "\times\ 10".

For the last part - the power, you need to find how many decimal places you moved the decimal point. In this case, we moved it to the right 2 places, so the power is ^{-2}.

If, for example, we had moved the decimal point three places to the left, the power would be ^{3}.

The graph of the equation $x + 2y + 3 = 0$ is perpendicular to the graph of the equation $ax + 2y + 3 = 0$. What is the value of
insens350 [35]

Answer:

a = -4.

Step-by-step explanation:

If the are perpendicular then the slope of one graph will be - 1 / slope of the other.

Convert each equation to slope-intercept form:

x + 2y + 3 = 0

2y = = -x - 3

y = (-1/2)x - 3/2 (Slope/intercept form)

So the slope of the line perpendicular to this  will be - 1 / (-1/2) = 2.

Consider the other line:

ax + 2y + 3 = 0

2y = -ax - 3

y = (-a/2) x - 3/2 (Slope/intercept form)

So the slope for this line    - a/2 and it equals 2.

-a/2 = 2

-a = 2*2 = 4

a = -4 (answer).
