First you multiply 5 and 2 to get 10 and 10 • -4 is -40 then you multiply 3 and 6 to get 18 then you add -40 and 18 the final answer is -22. Think of this: adding a negative to a positive is like subtracting. With -40 + 18 is similar to 40 - 18 and you 22 but that will be a -22.
