Are the plugs in your home connected in series or in parallel? and why?

Parallel. There are several reasons. Some are more technical, but the simplest reason is: If they were in series and somebody turned off the TV, all the lights in the house would go out, along with the air conditioner and the toaster.

In series, nothing can be running unless EVERYTHING is running. If one thing is unplugged or turned off, then EVERYTHING goes off.

If the house was wired in series, then every outlet would need something plugged into it AND turned on, otherwise you couldn't have a light in your bedroom. Pretty inconvenient !

a 3,000 kg car is traveling with a constant velocity of 10 m/s. how much work must be applied to the car to change its speed to
timama [110]

187500 Joules of work must be done to the 3000 kg car to change its speed from 10 m/s to 15 m/s.

Explanation:

Work is the measurement of the force on an object that overcomes a resisting force (such as friction or gravity) times the distance the object is moved. If there is no distance, there is no work, no matter what the effort.

Work done = Force * displacement

When you apply enough force on an object to overcome a resistive force, such that you move that object, you are doing work on that object. There is a relationship between that work and mechanical energy.

When an object is accelerated, you are doing work against inertia, such that the work equals the change in kinetic energy of the object.

Work done = Change in K.E

In the given case:

mass = m = 3000 kg

initial velocity = v₁ = 10 m/s

final velocity = v₂ = 10 m/s

Work = W = (1/2)m(v₂)² - (1/2)m(v₁)²

= \frac{1}{2}m(v2^{2} - v1^2)\\= \frac{3000}{2}(15^{2} - 10^{2})\\= 1500(225 - 100)\\= 1500*125\\= 187500 kg m^{2}s^{-2} \\= 187500 Nm\\= 187500 J

4. A 75 kg bobsled is pushed along a horizontal surface by two athletes. After the
vlada-n [284]

The net force on the sled is 300 N

Explanation:

First of all, we start by finding the acceleration of the bobsled, by using the suvat equation:

v^2-u^2=2as

where:

v = 6.0 m/s is the final velocity of the sled

u = 0 is the initial velocity

a is the acceleration

s = 4.5 m is the displacement of the sled

Solving for a, we find

a=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2s}=\frac{6.0^2-0}{2(4.5)}=4 m/s^2

Now we can find the net force on the sled by using Newton's second law:

F = ma

where

F is the net force

m = 75 kg is the mass of the sled

a=4 m/s^2 is the acceleration

Solving the equation, we find the net force:

F=(75)(4)=300 N

What is the difference between VELOCITY and SPEED?
valentina_108 [34]

Answer:

Speed is the time rate at which an object is moving along a path, while velocity is the rate and direction of an object's movement. Put another way, speed is a scalar value, while velocity is a vector. ... In its simplest form, average velocity is calculated by dividing change in position (Δr) by change in time (Δt).
