Both of them published works that challenged the views of the Church

the church believed the geocentric theory of the universe , it reinforced the religious view that God had made human beings special and put them at the center of the universe.

Copernicus theorized that the Earth orbited the Sun  , this is called heliocentric system.

Galileo used primitive telescope technology to follow individual stars, the moon, moons of Jupiter, and sunspots  & he observed evidence that supported Copernicus’ heliocentric theory.

Both Galileo and Copernicus argued in favor of heliocentricism, or that the sun is the center of the solar system. This was very controversial at the time wherein most people believed the Earth was the center of the universe.
