The substitute teacher offered the students candy for correctly solving math problems. So, for that entire week, whenever she pu

t a problem on the board, the conditioned students eagerly copied it down and expanded maximum effort to solve it correctly. Then, on Monday, their regular math teacher came back. That day, when she put a problem on the board, the students still retained some of their eagerness. By Tuesday, however all had suddenly seemed to lose interest in doing math. Why?

Answer: Extinction.

Explanation:

Extinction refers to a phenomenon of conditioned behavior, that appears when a behavior that used to be reinforced doesn´t have reinforcing consequences anymore, getting the behavior to stop.

In this case, the disappearance of the conditioned response (the candy), makes the behavior of showing eagerness to do math slowly decreases, until it disappears.

Dutch researcher geert hofstede identified four cultural dimensions by studying _____.
Vikentia [17]

Dutch researcher Geert Hofstede identified four cultural dimensions by studying data on IBM employees from dozens of countries.

The original theory has four dimensions along which cultural values identified as:

  • individualism-collectivism
  • uncertainty avoidance
  • power distance in social hierarchy
  • masculinity-femininity

Hofstede's theory is used to understand the differences in cultures round the globe. He started this model on the basis of dissimilarities in values and beliefs relating work goals. The aim of this model was to determine the dimensions in which cultures vary from each other . It is important because it gives useful  information regarding variances between countries' culture, values and beliefs and how to manage such cultural differences".
