To find x we would make x-y=15 into x=15+y so we can have an equation for x. We plug in for x in the other equation and we have -(15+y)+5y=13. We distribute the - sign to get -15-y+5y=13. We subtract a y from 5y and we have -15+4y=13. We add 15 to both sides to cancel out the negative 15. We get 4y=28. We divide by 4 to both sides to cancel out multiplying by 4. We get y as 7. Now, to get x we simply look back at the equation x-y=15. We plug 7 making x-7=15. Instead of subtracting we add 7 to both sides and we get x as 22. Therefore, x is 22 and y is 7

Professional plumbers suggest that a sewer pipe should be sloped 0.25 inch for every foot. find the recommended slope for a sewe
erik [133]

We have been given that professional plumbers suggest that a sewer pipe should be sloped 0.25 inch for every foot.

Therefore, we can find the slope as:

\text{Slope}=\frac{0.25\text{ inch}}{\text{1 foot}}=\frac{0.25\text{ inch}}{\text{12 inch}}

\text{Slope}=\frac{0.25}{12}=\frac{25}{1200}=\frac{1}{48}

Therefore, the recommended slope for a sewer pipe is \frac{1}{48}

The table shows the number of cups of water required when cooking different amounts of rice.
Harman [31]

<u>Answer-</u>

<em>The amount of water is the dependent value.</em>

<u>Solution-</u>

Plotting the graph from the given data points, it comes out to be a straight line with positive slope. So, both the variables i.e amount of rice and amount of water are in a linear relationship. They are directly proportional to each other.

As the amount of rice increases, the water needed to cook the rice also increases. Plotting a graph taking amount of rice in abscissa and amount of water in ordinate, a straight line was obtained.

Here, amount of rice is the independent variable and amount of water is dependent variable as it depends on the amount of rice.

Sally is having a problem with her puppy leaving the yard so she decides to build a new fence. The length of the yard is 10 feet
Cerrena [4.2K]

The length of the yard is 25ft.

In order to find this we first need to set up variables for the length and the width. Since we don't know anything about the width, we'll set it as x. Then, we know the length is equal to ten more than three times the width. Since the width is x, we can write the length as 3x + 10. Now we can use the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle to solve for x.

2l + 2w = P

2(3x + 10) + 2(x) = 60

6x + 20 + 2x = 60

8x + 20 = 60

8x = 40

x = 5

Now that we have a value for x, we can plug into the length equation and find the length.

3x + 10

3(5) + 10

15 + 10

25
