From both the equations we get,
   x - 1 = - 2x + 8
x + 2x = 8 + 1
      3x = 9
        x = 9 / 3
        x = 3.

So putting the value of x in the 2nd equation we get,
     y = 3 - 1
     y = 2.

So, (x,y) = (3,2) .
