An electric heater has a Nichrome heating element with a resistance of 9 Ω at 20oC. When 112 V are applied, the electric current

heats the Nichrome wire to 1090oC. What is the operating wattage of this heater? (The temperature coefficient of resistivity of Nichrome is α = 0.0004 Co-1)

Answer:

975.28 W.

Explanation:

Using,

R' = R(1+αΔt)....................... Equation 1

Where R' = Resistance at the final temperature, R = Resistance at the initial temperature, α = temperature coefficient of resistivity of Nichorome, Δt = Temperature rise.

Given: R = 9 Ω, α = 0.0004/°C, Δt = 1090-20 = 1070 °C

Substitute into equation 1

R' = 9(1+0.0004×1070)

R' = 9(1.428)

R' = 12.862  Ω.

Note: Operating wattage of the heater means the operating power of the heater

The power of the heater is given as,

P = V²/R'...................... Equation 2

Where P = Operating wattage of the heater, V = Voltage, R' = Operating resistance.

Given: V = 112 V, R' = 12.862 Ω

Substitute into equation 2

P = 112²/12.862

P = 975.28 W.

What is the process by which water dissolves certain minerals in the soil and carries them away?
Mademuasel [1]
The correct answer would be LEACHING. When at first thought, it would seem that it is erosion. Erosion not only eliminates the soil minerals, it also washes everything else and that includes the soil. <span>In a different manner, Leaching can happen when certain minute particles of the minerals are melted and mixes with water. All that is left in the soil will be the bigger particles that are not soluble by water. In this manner, only a soil that cannot properly nourish remains as it is stripped off of minerals.</span>

1. What are three examples of how invasive species spread?
Darya [45]

Answer:

Their primary way of spreading is from human activities, they can quickly travel around the world for example these new "murder" hornets that can kill a large bee hive with one sting, they traveled all the way from Asia. Invasive species can also be through people's luggage, small boats, planes and large shipment like cargo carriers. I hope this helps. :  )

A machine exerts a 100 N force to the right over a 5.00 meter length in 4.00 seconds. Calculate the power output of this machine
bixtya [17]

125 W is the power output of this machine.

Answer:

Explanation:

Power is defined as the amount of work done on the system to move that system from its original state within the given time interval. So it can be determined by the ratio of work done with time interval. As work done is the measure of force required to move a system to a certain distance. Work done is calculated as product of force with displacement.

So in the present case, the force is given as 100 N, the displacement is given as 5 m and the time is given as 4 s, then power is

Power = \frac{Work done}{Time}

As Work done = Force acting on the machine × Displacement

So Power = \frac{(Force * Displacement)}{Time}

Power = \frac{(100*5)}{4}=125 W

So, 125 W is the power output of this machine.

An incandescent bulb is supplied with
Serga [27]

Answer:

Efficiency = 5%

Explanation:

Given that,

Supplies energy to the bulb = 100 J

Transferred energy by the bulb = 5 J

We need to find the efficiency of the bulb. It can be given by "

\eta=\dfrac{\text{useful energy out}}{\text{useful energy in}}\times 100\\\\=\dfrac{5}{100}\times 100\\\\=5\%

So, the efficiency of the bulb is 5%.
