Answer;

-Producer

Explanation;

Producers are organisms who make (or produce) their own food. Plants are called producers. This is because they produce their own food. They do this by using light energy from the Sun, carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to produce food - in the form of glucose/sugar. The process is called photosynthesis.

-Corn is considered a producer because corn meets the two primary characteristics of a producer. That is; producers make their own food so they can live. Corn is a plant that uses photosynthesis to take energy from sunshine and make usable glucose for energy.

Briefly outline the steps involved in glycogen synthesis and breakdown and explain the regulatory mechanism involved in glycogen
Elenna [48]

Answer:

Glycogen is synthesized and degraded by different pathways, which provide greater flexibility for energy production through its degradation or for storage in its synthesis and thus maintain control of both metabolic pathways.

Explanation:

Synthesis and degradation pathways:

1º.- activation of glucose units at UDP-glucose.

UDP-glucose is an activated form of glucose, which is formed in a reaction catalyzed by UDP-glucose, which is formed in a reaction catalyzed by UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase. This reaction is an example of biosynthetic reactions that are directed by the hydrolysis of pyrophosphate (PPi-2Pi).

Many biosynthetic reactions are directed by the hydrolysis of pyrophosphate, which catalyzes pyrophosphate hydrolase or pyrophosphatase, and is very favorable thermodynamically.

2nd.- polymerization or addition of glucose units to glycogen. Two steps: addition and branching.

UDP-glucose acts as the giver of glucose units for glycogen synthesis. Glucose transfer

from the UDP-glucose to a growing glycogen chain is catalyzed by glycogen synthase.

A branching enzyme [amyl (1,4 -> 1,6) -transglucosidase], moves a chain of about seven glucose residues, to form

bonds (α1-> 6) at the branching points.

To start glycogen synthesis, glycogen synthase is only effective when it is linked to glycogenin. Glycogenin is

an oligosaccharide carrier protein formed by glucose units with linkages (α1-> 4).

Edward Jenner:
Greeley [361]
Edward Jenner is known as, “the father of Immunology.” He was an English physician and scientist that made a smallpox vaccine from the cowpox virus. This is known to be the world’s first vaccine and this discovery is said have saved more lives than the work of any other human being. Because of his work, World Health Organization declared smallpox an eradicated disease in the 1979. Up to the year 2002, Jenner was still being recognizes in the field of contemporary immunology and was even included in the list of 100 Greatest Britons.

Multiple sclerosis and atherosclerosis are similar in that they both refer to:
alukav5142 [94]

The conditions mentioned are both a type of sclerosis, which refers to the hardening of a certain anatomical feature.

In atherosclerosis, the affected anatomical feature is the artery. This is a condition that causes the obstructions of blood flow through the artery as a result of plaque buildup along the artery walls. Unlike with MS, atherosclerosis does not present symptoms until the obstructions are severe or the plaque loosens, which can lead to heart attacks, among other consequences.

In the case of Multiple Sclerosis, the affected anatomical structure is that of the nerve. This is a condition for unknown reasons, causes the immune system to attack the myelin covers of nerve cells which act to protect the cell. The absence of this cover causes the build-up of plaque along the nerve axon, stiffening and disrupting the communication of the nerves with the central nervous system.
