A student, along with her backpack on the floor next to her, are in an elevator that is accelerating upward with acceleration a.

The student gives her backpack a quick kick at t = 0, imparting to it speed v and causing it to slide across the elevator floor. At time t, the backpack hits the opposite wall a distance L away from the student. Find the coefficient of kinetic friction μk between the backpack and the elevator floor. (Use any variable or symbol stated above along with the following as necessary: g.)

Answer:

\mu_k = \frac{2(vt - L)}{(g + a) t^2}

Explanation:

As we know that backpack is kicked on the rough floor with speed "v"

So here as per force equation in vertical direction we know that

N - mg = ma

so normal force on the block is given as

N = mg + ma

now the magnitude of kinetic friction on the block is given as

F_f = \mu N

F_f = \mu (mg + ma)

now when bag is sliding on the floor then net deceleration of the block due to friction is given as

a = - \frac{F_f}{m}

a = -\mu_k(g + a)

now we know that bag hits the opposite wall at L distance away in time t

so we have

d = v t + \frac{1}{2}at^2

L = vt - \frac{1}{2}(\mu_k)(g + a) t^2

\mu_k = \frac{2(vt - L)}{(g + a) t^2}

When a cold air mass replaces a warm air mass, it's called a(n) _____ front?
Anvisha [2.4K]
When a cold air <span>mass replaces a warm air mass, this is called a cold front. Some characteristics of a called front before passing are winds coming from south or southwest area, warm temperature, falling pressure, and drizzles. When it passes, the winds are shifting, there is a sudden drop of temperature, minimum pressure followed by a sharp rise. After passing, the winds head to the west or northwest area, temperature is steadily dropping and the pressure is rising steadily.</span>

Luden [163]

The answer is A.

Copper is conductive hence Bernie could use the copper bowl to easily warm his food.

Copper is ductile hence Nicholas can easily bend his copper wire gauge

Copper is malleable hence can be easily shaped into a form hence used to make a bracelet for Matt’s mother.

Physics is explicitly involved in studying which of these activities?
Paul [167]
Physics is explicitly involved in studying <span>the motion of a spacecraft under gravitational influence. Thus the answer is C.
Physic focuses more on the measurement, gravity, distances, acceleration and motion. THough all the choices are sciences but the C. is the topic that physics is involved.</span>

A volleyball is hit upward with an initial velocity of 6.0 m/s. Calculate the displacement of the volleyball when its final velo
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer:

1.78 m upward

Explanation:

We can find the displacement of the volleyball by using the SUVAT equation:

v^2 - u^2 = 2ad

where, assuming upward as positive direction:

u = 6.0 m/s is the initial velocity

v = 1.1 m/s is the final velocity

a = g = -9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity

d is the displacement

Solving the equation for d, we find:

d=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2a}=\frac{1.1^2-6.0^2}{2(-9.8)}=1.78 m

And since it is positive, the displacement is upward.
