The data set shows the number of practice free throws players in a basketball competition made and the number of free throws the

y made in a timed competition.
Practice throws 3 12 6 14 2 7 10 8
Free throws 10 22 9 35 4 11 28 20

A. Use technology to find the equation AND coefficient of determination for each type of regression model. Use the number of practice throws for the input variable and the number of free throws for the output variable. Round all decimal values to three places.
B. EXPLAIN, using the information you found above, which model best fits the data set. How did you come to your conclusion?

Answer-

The exponential model best fits the data set.

Solution-

x = input variable = number of practice throws

y = output variable =  number of free throws

Using Excel, Linear, Quadratic and Exponential regression model were generated.

The best fit equation and co-efficient of determination R² are as follows,

Linear Regression

Quadratic Regression

Exponential Regression

The value of co-efficient of determination R² ranges from 0 to 1, the more closer its value to 1 the better the regression model is.

Now,

Therefore, the Exponential Regression model must be followed.

You want to eliminate one of the terms (x or y) in one of the equations so you can solve for the other variable.  You have to multiply by the opposite number of the coefficient to be able to eliminate the term in the other equation.  If the x coefficient is 2, then you have to multiply the entire other equation by -2.  If the y coefficient is -5, then you have to multiply the entire other equation by 5.

10)
-4x + 9y= 9
x - 3y= -6

STEP 1:
multiply the bottom equation by 4
4(x- 3y)= 4(-6)
4x - 12y= -24

STEP 2:
add the top equation and the equation from step 2

-4x + 9y= 9
4x - 12y= -24
the x term cancels out

-3y= 15
divide both sides by -3

y= -5

STEP 2:
substitute the y value in either original equation to solve for x

x - 3y= -6
x - 3(-5)= -6

x + 15= -6
subtract 15 from both sides

x= -21

ANSWER: x= -21; y= -5

12)
-7x + y= -19
-2x + 3y= -19

STEP 1:
multiply the top equation by -3 to eliminate the y term and to solve for x

-3(-7x + y)= -3(-19)
21x - 3y= 57

STEP 2:
add the bottom equation and the equation from step 2 to solve for x

-2x + 3y= -19
21x - 3y= 57
the y term cancels out

19x= 38
divide both sides by 19

x= 2

STEP 3:
substitute the x value in step 2 to solve for y; you can use either original equation

-7x + y= -19
-7(2) + y= -19

-14 + y= -19
add 14 to both sides

y= -5

ANSWER: x= 2; y=-5

Hope this helps!  :)

A local car wash is open 8 hours each day. It uses 1/3 of a container of wax for each car. The car wash waxes an average of 8 1/
sweet-ann [11.9K]

Answer:

22.67 containers.

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of cars washed is the average by the total hours worked:

C_{total}=\bar xt,\bar x=8.5,t=8\\\\C_{total}=8.5\times 8=68

Given that each car uses 1/3 tin of wax, the total containers is calculated as:

Containers=\bar x_c n,n=68,\bar x_c=\frac{1}{3}\\\\=\frac{1}{3}\times 68\\\\=22.67

Hence, the car wash uses 22.67 containers of wax per day.

Ryan buys a bag of cookies that contains 8 chocolate chip cookies, 4 peanut butter cookies, 4 sugar
Pavlova-9 [17]

Answer:

4/69 to be exact. Slightly greater than 1/18

Step-by-step explanation:

The chance of selecting the PB cookie on the first try is 4 out of 24 or 1 out of 6. There are now 23 coolies left; 8 are chocolate, so 8/23 chance. (Slightly greater than 1/3) The chance of both events happening is the product if the individual events' chances. So multiply 1/6 times 8/23 to get 8/138. That reduces to 4/ 69. If he had put that first cookie back, the multiplication would have been 1/6×1/3. A lot easier.
