Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

x = -25/6

y = -7/3

Discussion:

2x - 8 = 7y                    => multiply both sides by 3

6x - 24 = 21y

Subtract this from the second equation:

  6x -9y= -4

  6x -24 = 21y

-   --------------------------

0x -9y + 24 = -4 - 21y              =>   add 21y to both sides

-9y + 21y + 24 = -4                    =>  add -24 to both sides

-9y +21y + (24 - 24) = -4 -24     =>

12y = - 28                                   =>

y = -28/12

y = -7/3

Solving for x,

2x - 8 = 7(-7/3)           =>

2x - 8 = -49/3            => add 8 = 24/3 to both sides

2x = -49/3 + 24/3      =>

2x = -25/3                 => divide both sides by 2

x = -25/6

Thank you,

MrB

Match the solid figure to the appropriate formula.
AlekseyPX

1. L \cdot A=\pi r l        -       Cone

2. V=\frac{4}{3} \pi r^{3}         -        Sphere

3. T \cdot A=2 \pi r h+2 \pi r^{2} - Cylinder

4. V=\frac{1}{3} B h         -        Pyramid

5. L . A=p h         -        Prism

Solution:

1. L \cdot A=\pi r l

Lateral surface area of cone = \pi r l

where r is the radius of the cone and l is the slant height of the cone.

2. V=\frac{4}{3} \pi r^{3}

Volume of sphere = \frac{4}{3} \pi r^{3}

where r is the radius of the sphere.

3. T \cdot A=2 \pi r h+2 \pi r^{2}

Total surface area of cylinder = 2 \pi r h+2 \pi r^{2}

where r is the radius of the cylinder and h is the height of the cylinder.

4. V=\frac{1}{3} B h

Volume of pyramid = \frac{1}{3} B h

where B is the base area of the pyramid and h is the height of the pyramid.

5. L . A=p h

Lateral surface area of prism = p h

where p is the perimeter of the base and h is the height of the prism.

1800 gal converts to 7200 quarts, and divide that by 60 you get 120 quarts of water per second.
