Friends throw snowballs at the wall of a 3.0 m × 6.0 m barn. The snowballs have mass 0.10 kg and hit the wall moving at an avera

ge speed of 6.0 m/s. They do not rebound. Part A Determine the average pressure exerted by the snowballs on the wall if 30 snowballs hit the wall each second.

To solve this problem it is necessary to apply the definition given for the change in the momentum.

Momentum can be defined as the change of Force due to time, that is to say

L = F*t

Where,

F = Force

t = Time

At the same time momentum can be defined as

L = mv

Where,

m = mass

v = velocity

For our values we have that

t = 1sec

v = 6.0m/s

m = 0.10Kg

Equation both equations we have that

F*t = mv \\F = \frac{mv}{t}

Replacing with our values we have that

F = \frac{(0.1)(6)}{1}\\F = 0.6N

Therefore if we have 30 ball in one second the TOTAL force would be

F_{net} = 30*0.6\\F_{net} = 18N

Pressure can be defined as the Force in function of Area, that s

P = \frac{F}{A} \\P = \frac{18}{3*6}\\P = 1Pa

Therefore the average pressure exerted by the snowballs on the wall if 30 snowballs hit the wall each second is 1 Pa.
