Answer:

The molar absorptivity coefficient is, 16.67 M^{-1}cm^{-1}.

Explanation:

Using Beer-Lambert's law :

Formula used :

A=\epsilon \times C\times l

A=\log \frac{I_o}{I}

\log \frac{I_o}{I}=\epsilon \times C\times l

where,

A = absorbance of solution

C = concentration of solution = 0.03 mol/L=0.03 M

l = path length = 2 cm

I_o = incident light

I = transmitted light

\epsilon = molar absorptivity coefficient = ?

A compound absorb 90 % of the light and transmit 10% of light.

Transmittance = 10% = 0.1

0.1=\frac{I}{I_o}

A=\log \frac{I_o}{I}=\log \frac{1}{0.1}=1

Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get the molar absorptivity coefficient.

1=\epsilon \times (0.03 M)\times ( 2 cm)

\epsilon=16.67 M^{-1}cm^{-1}

Therefore, the molar absorptivity coefficient is, 16.67 M^{-1}cm^{-1}.

So I am lost and I don't know how what any of those conversion factor things are and I'm wondering how to do #2,3, and 4. (I did
dalvyx [7]

Explanation:

#2.

A centigram is 1/100 of a gram, so that means a gram equals 100 centigrams.

Therefore you multiply 72.4 grams by 100/1 (or just 100), and get 7240 cg.

You did that one right but put the wrong unit in the answer. It is is cg ( centigrams).

#3.

1 liter is equal to 1000 milliliters, and I kiloliter is equal to 1000 liters. So one kiloliter is 1000*1000 milliliters or 1,000,000 milliliters.

The conversion factor would be

1/1000000

#4.

1 gigabyte is equal to 10^9 bytes.

I byte is equal to 10^9 bytes.

So 1 gigabyte is 10^9 * 10^9 nanobytes, or 10^18.

The conversion factor would be (1*10^18)/1.

Elvira Walks 4 miles to the west from school and stops at the store. She then walks 3 miles south.
dalvyx [7]

Answer:

distance = 7 miles

displacement = 5 miles

Explanation:

Distance is a scalar quantity as it takes account of magnitude traveled but not the direction traveled from starting point.

The distance traveled is the sum total of distances moved

distance = 4 + 3 = 7 miles

Displacement however, is a vector and measure the shortest possible distance traveled in a given direction from the starting point.

The path of Elvis' walking forms a right-angle triangle with the hypotenuse being the displacement and the other two sides being the distance traveled west and south.

Using Pythagoras' theorem; c² = a² + b²

where c = hypotenuse and a and b are the other two sides

c² = 4² + 3²

c² = 16 + 9 = 25

√c² = √25

c = 5

Therefore, displacement = 5 miles
