12 * 3 + 2

if your 12 and your uncle is 3 times your age then you do 
 
12 times 3

that gives you 36

 the + 2 which will equal 38

Because you are 12 you put down

x can be anything so if you write

12x 

You can later substitute it for 3. 12(3)

Your uncle is 2 years more 

12x+2 is your equation
