Germany promised Mexico all the land that they lost in the Mexican- American War. Mexico did not agree with the fact that they had a lot of political problems and were in no shape to fight the United States.

The Zimmerman telescope was a secret communication issued by the German office in January 1917 to form a military alliance between Germany and Mexico. The telegram was decoded by the British Intelligence.The Germans presumed that if Mexico would enter the war then it could recover the territories of Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. The telegram was sent to the German ambassador in Mexico and he was ordered to approach Mexico in case if USA tried to enter the first world war.
